Songwriter. Singer. Guitarist. Bassist. JV plays original music that fuses elements of rock, funk, soul, gospel and jazz with the power and directness of electric blues. He calls this music “the new urban blues” ™.
JV started playing bass guitar after hearing the bluesy swing and shuffle of Bill Wyman from the early days of the Rolling Stones. A few years later, the music of Albert King inspired him to pick up the guitar. JV writes music rooted in the styles of masters such as T. Bone Walker, John Lee Hooker and Muddy Waters. The lyrics, however, reflect contemporary issues and modern life.
He leads the band J.V. & The Cutters and also plays sets fronting house bands and pick-up bands. He’s the bass player for ‘The Heavenly Echoes’ gospel group. J.V. lives in Troy, New York.
